JD Group to establish in-house GIS division with MapInfo and ST GroupClick here to download article

MIDRAND – February 01, 2010 – JD Group, South Africa’s leading differentiated furniture retailer, has established a dedicated geographic information system (GIS) department with the help of Pitney Bowes Business Insight MapInfo and ST Group, a location intelligence, mobility and fleet management solutions provider and preferred local partner for Pitney Bowes Business Insight.

For the past few years, JD Group has outsourced some of its geographical analysis functions for catalogue distribution to business solution consultants, Discerning-IT. Having experienced great success utilising the local intelligence tool, the group has brought the planning and strategising responsibilities for catalogue distribution in-house and has extended the service across the entire organisation.

According to Alan Ellis, CEO at ST Group, the company not only wants to address customer density but would also like to expand the use of geographical analysis into projects for store location and property management, financial services, marketing analysis and logistics.

“With Pitney Bowes Business Insight MapInfo, JD Group has access to census statistics and demographic profiles, shopping centre databases and growth indicators. The tool will enable the group to visualise data on maps and make optimal site selection choices, draw up profiles on

credit worthiness, optimise deliveries through warehouse and fleet management as well as identify new marketing opportunities not apparent when using traditional methods such as spreadsheets and reports,” he explains.
